The IRCP document provides a comprehensive review of the principles of radiation safety that should be considered by cardiologists who perform interventional procedures including electrophysiology studies and implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators. In that respect it is an excellent article. The section on training for cardiologists is nonspecific and the reference to IRCP publication 113 is not readily accessible. It is difficult for cardiologists to support a training proposal that has not undergone comprehensive review by our professional societies. If the IRCP cannot work collaboratively with cardiology societies such as the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society and other subspecialty societies, then these recommendations are unlikely to be recognized by cardiologists and will have little impact on training guidelines that are established by our professional societies.
